Opportunities amidst uncertainties

Updated: Feb 16, 2023

Thinking about it today, it’s funny that I was laughed at by many for wanting to leave a stable and secure job when I told people that I am leaving the Military to live life by my Design 14 years ago.

The truth is, I was worried to leave my stable job, especially with all the responsibilities and financial liabilities that I had. It was like walking into a realm of uncertainty but there was something that I could not explain to anyone.

The excitement I had within me amidst all that fear, that there was a possibility to be the person that I had envisioned myself to be in years to come. I could only see the opportunity in that uncertainty. It was that uncertainty that paved the path to my growth and pushed me forward to progress just like many others did before and after me.

I realised then that there’s no one right answer and we’re all on the same path to finding out more about ourselves, our true potential, others, and the world around us. The question always is, are we willing to pay the price that comes with that answer?

Reflecting on it today after 14 years, I don’t blame those people for reacting that way when I told them about my decision.

The irony was, some of them whom I had recently met up over coffee had said that they regretted not taking the decision to move forward out of their comfort zone when they could. According to them, it was their fear of failure, uncertainties, and most importantly the lack of initiative to find out more information that stopped them.

The pain of regret of not doing something that one desire due to their fear of failure is definitely more painful than the pain of taking the chance towards the possibility of becoming who you want to be. I could see that pain right through their eyes during our conversation. It’s common sense but not common practice.

I am not saying that I only had positive experiences during my journey in my pursuit to rise above mediocrity but my failures, challenges, and even moments of humiliation kept me moving and growing.

I learned to be conscious to reflect on those lessons rather than to be consumed with sympathy and self-pity was itself a choice that I had to make my pursuit a reality.

My late dad used to tell me – “Sakthi, what is the worst that can happen to you when you step forward to better understand things so that you can make an informed decision that is the best for you and your loved ones?

Today, living my life by design, it's my purpose to share my journey and more with as many individuals out there open to opportunities in the Financial Services Industry and live life by their design so let’s chat if I can add value to you.

Why do I do this? It’s because everybody deserves an opportunity to live life by their own design.
